2012 – 2013 Season Recap

Mad Bull Parents, Fans and Friends.

We wrapped up our winter season with the annual awards banquet on March 22nd at the Laurel Athletic Club in Norwalk.  A great time was had by all.  The festivities started around 6:30pm and ended around 11:00pm.  The Coaches and Board members would like to thank all those anonymous donors of Time, Treasure and Talent who worked day in and day out to make this our most successful season ever.   We know that none of this would be possible without the team effort put forthe from the community.

Here is a quick recap of the awards:

Outstanding wrestler:  Koy Price earned this award and it was well deserved.  He went undefeated, won a Connecticut State Championship and had a team leading 16 pins during the season.   His success is no surprise to us as coaches because he pays attention and works hard in practice every day.

Madbull Man of Character Award (Affinion).  Charlie Prather and Sam White both earned this award due to their courage and leadership on and off the mat.  We’ll deserved boys!

Rookie of the year:  Jason Martinez earned this award.  His improvement from the beginning of the season to the end of the season was dramatic!  Unfortunately he is an 8th grader and will be aging out of the program.   As coaches we will continue to monitor him and expect great things from him at McMahon.

Outstanding Rookies:  We had four, they were Patrick  Coulter, Zack and Alexander Simon and Dean Tsiranides.  We expect great things from these guys next year.

Most Exciting wrestler:   Nicky Singer (AKA Smiley)  Lots of fun to watch and enjoys wrestling immensely.  (I guess It’s easy to always be smiling when your kicking your opponents butt!)

Madbull “Beast” award:   Jeff Cocchia won this beastly award UNANIMOUSLY!

Most wins:  Artie Cocchia had the most wins and came in a close 2nd to Koy Price with 15 pins.  Good Job Artie!

Most improved:   We were very pleased to see the improvement Noah Frass made toward the end of the season and will continue to work hard with him to improve all aspects of his wrestling.

Most Determined:  This hard working Duo on the mat is Kasim Khan and Jason Singer.  They never give up!

Mad Bull Strong Finish Award:  Jeff Capone came in late because of football commitments but was able to step it up and garner a second place finish at the Connecticut State Tournament in a very competitive bracket.  He is another kid we will sorely miss as he is moving on to McMahon next year.  We wish him well.

Comeback Wrestler of the year.   Quint Bartush earned this award.   After suffering a season ending knee injury last year, he came back this season at 110% because of his hard work in the off season.

Mad Bull Pride Awards:  These 19 boys 1 girl earned this award.  They are valued wrestling partners and teammates that contributed to the success of the aforementioned award winners.  We encourage them to continue to work hard and make some noise for years to come.   Mike Bartush, Jake Bella, Mike Berkowitz, Jack Cahill, Conor Carroll, Jaylen Carter, Billy Dougherty, Derek Faber, Nick Garoffolo, Anna Haus, Liam Ireland, Derek Makowski, Luca Robbins, Mike Santalucia, Simon Swetland, Jakari Walker, James Wise, Brian Mallozzi & Mike Mallozzi.
